The vegetable soup was much better than the SuperBowl

I didn't watch the SuperBowl last night and my spouse didn't watch it in its entirety, tho it hummed in the background while we directed our attention to our computers and other distractions.  I had planned to defrost some curried lentils I had in the freezer and my spouse requested pita pizzas.  As it turned out I made a pot of vegetable soup and when my spouse got a whiff of it he wanted a bowl too.  The finished product wasn't tasty enough to suit me so I added some miso at the end.  We ate the whole pot.

I caught a couple of commercials, enough to make me realize why I wasn't watching.  They seemed to be directed at Beavis and Butthead.  Perhaps they would have been better if I had watched them on a digital flat-screen.  I haven't been motivated to buy one.  The entertainment isn't all that good.

My sensibilities were again affronted by the glimpse of W, Condi, and their ilk in the luxury boxes.  I hope they enjoyed the commercials.

Corn and Kindness

We have cornfields among strip malls in our neighborhood.  It seems natural.  I'm glad it's that way.  We are surrounded by wetlands too,  where geese abide summer and winter.  Snow covers most of the landscape but today I noticed several rows of corn along the road that hadn't been cut down like the rest.  I wondered why for a moment.  And then I saw the geese nestled in the brown stalks.  The farmer had left them a home.  How nice.  It made me feel better about everything for a moment.

I'm curious...

What if Eve hadn't eaten the fruit?  If Eve had not eaten the forbidden fruit and "tempted" Adam, what would our lives be like today? Was it the devil, or just human curiosity that made her do it?  Is curiosity an enemy of religion? Did Adam and Eve stop eating the forbidden fruit or did they continue to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge?  Did it taste good?  Did Eve make a good pie with it?  I hope so.  I always root for the underdog.

There's a sign near my home "Pick you own apples".  I've read that apples should remain cool from the time they appear on the tree until they are eaten.  Recently we have had our first real stretch of warm weather.  I wonder if that affected the apple crop in a bad way.   I don't know much about growing apples, but I do know I don't like warm apples... unless they have been cooked.
